Tape in hair extensions are a great way to add length, volume or even a splash of color to your hair. In the Singapore salon where I work with G.L. Tapes they are introduced to my clients as form of semi-permanent extension.
The reason I say this is because the tape ins need to be removed and re attached or not depending on your choice. Roughly every six to eight weeks.
Tape in hair extensions or hair tapes as they are often called. Happen to be the secret as to why so many celebrates seem to manage to change their hair looks virtually overnight.
Now almost all celebrates do wear hair extensions for added length or thickness and these type of semi-permanent extensions are a quick and easy fix. And if you are looking to add to your hair they are a great alternative to the longer term pre bonded option.
Are Tape In Hair Extensions For You?
Tape in hair extensions come in 1-inch strips of hair. The quality of the hair and the adhesive strips used will vary depending upon the amount of money that you wish to spend. Because just as with other types of hair extensions they can be made of real human hair, synthetic hair or a combination of both.
For top quality tape ins which I do recommend that you opt for. You should expect 100% human remi hair (all the hairs cuticles are facing the same direction.) with the hair being as full at the tips as it is at the base.
The tapes should also use a medical adhesive that is hypo-allergenic and nontoxic.
As hair tapes are very light to wear they maybe the perfect answer if you have fine hair. Yet are a little worried about attaching pre bonded extensions to your fine hair.
Will The Extensions Look Fake.
If attached correctly by a professional the answer is no.
But as with any type of extensions opting for the best quality will produce the best results.
Now when it comes to your hair you may be a DIY kind of lady who applies her own colors. But I must stress that it is very important to use a skilled professional to put in your hair tapes so as to achieve a great result.
Because to pull off a natural look the density, texture and thickness of your hair must be matched correctly.
Placement also plays an important role in creating a natural look.
The sectioning of your hair needs to be carried out carefully. Because the tapes must be applied aligned with the roots of your hair and not placed diagonally or too close to the root area. If this were to happen it would certainly cause you some discomfort when wearing them.
With the correct fitment you will find that the tapes lie completely flat to your head producing a free flowing very natural feel.
The Application Of Hair Tapes.
Tape in hair extensions are both quick to apply and remove.
During your consultation and depending upon requirements the placement positions will be decided.
Your stylist will then section off your hair. Before taking a small clean section.
They will next peel off the cover of a weft to reveal the adhesive.
This weft is then placed under the thin section of your hair approximately 1cm from your scalp.
A second weft is then placed on top of your hair section. Positioned directly over the underneath weft.
Creating a sandwich effect with your hair in the middle of the two wefts.
How many wefts you would need would depend upon your desired result. Whether you were just looking to add a splash of color. Or wanting the tapes to create more volume or a look of overall length.
Removal Is Fast And Easy.
As they are semi permanent extensions it means that your hair tapes will have to be removed every six to eight weeks. Depending upon the speed of your hair growth.
Because as your hair grows the tapes will move further away from you root area. And the further they are from your root area the more likely they are to twist and tangle.
When it comes to removing the tape in extensions the process fast and safe. In the salon I find removing GL tapes takes very little time compared to the removal of Great Lengths more permanent hair exrensions.
Your stylist will wet the tape area with a removal lotion. This solution will dissolve and loosen the adhesive so that each weft can be gently wiggled off.
Please don’t try to take them out at home as if you do undo the wefts incorrectly you will pull and break your hair.
To re apply your tape ins your stylist will place tape re fills onto the base of the hair wefts before re attachment.
A process that can be carried out roughly three to four times with the same hair wefts.
Tips To Help You Care For Tape In Hair Extensions.
If you use hot tools on your hair do make sure that you do not go near the tapes. Otherwise the heat will melt the adhesive.
When washing your hair use a sulfate free shampoo. During the application of conditioner or any hair oil only apply from the middle of your hair shaft down. Because if applied to the root area they may interfere with the stickiness of the adhesive.
Brush your hair frequently at least twice a day starting from the ends of your hair and working to the top. Use a brush designed for use on hair extensions as this will glide through your hair without any tugging.
Yes you can go swimming in your tape ins although it is best not sleep with your hair wet.
