Olaplex is a godsend when it comes to chemical abuse. No, I am not talking about alcohol or drugs but the constant abuse that many of us put our hair through. Be it coloring, perming, straightening or a combination of these chemical processes.
This was probably the biggest hair treatment breakthrough for years and yes Olaplex does really work. Especially so if you happen to bleach or highlight your hair.
Caring for your hair when having a chemical treatment is an important factor in maintaining a head of healthy hair.
At this point you may be thinking to yourself, but I always do.
I give my hair a hair conditioning treatment every week
But with chemical abuse your hair does need more.
According to statistics 75% of women color their hair in some form or another. If you happen to be one of them I am sure that you will have heard your hairstylist mention Olaplex to you.
What Olaplex Is Not.
This product is not a hair conditioning treatment although many people seem to think it is.
Now interestingly enough Olaplex does not use the word conditioning treatment on its bottles or in any of its marketing.
Because it repairs your hair from within.
Whilst Hair conditioning treatments are synonymous with moisturizing your hair.
What Olaplex Is.
Olaplex is a molecule that works from inside your hair strands to strengthen and repair damaged disulphide bonds.
These disulphide bonds are responsible for your hairs structure and shape.
Why Your Hairs Disulphide Bonds Are So Important.
Without getting into too much science and boring you.
Your hair is made up of fibres and between these fibres are keratin proteins which have cysteine.
Within the cysteine are Sulphur atoms. Pairs of these Sulphur atoms will join to form a disulphide bond.
For your hair to be healthy and strong.
Having a strong bond between these Sulphur atoms is very important. As they hold your hairs structure and shape.
Why You Should Use Olaplex to Keep Your Hair Strong.
Your hair bonds break down when subject to repeated heat or chemical treatments.
During perming or straightening these disulphide bonds are deliberately broken and then reformed after your hair is pulled into its new shape.
When coloring your hair, the hydrogen peroxide will break some of your hairs disulphide bonds.
Although not as many as in high lift situations such as hi lighting, balayage or full head bleaching. Where sometimes results can end up with breakage and candy floss hair.
Olaplex works from within to reconnect broken disulphide bonds in your hair which gives a thicker look as well as feeling healthier and stronger.
How You Achieve The Best Results From Olaplex’s Three Part System.
For you to achieve the best results it is important to use Olaplex during your color treatment and more so if bleaching your hair.
Or for that matter any other chemical treatment.
Part one of the system your stylist or colorist will mix into your color mix before applying onto your hair. This will help to rebuild your hairs disulphide bonds so preventing damage.
Part two of the system will again be carried out in the salon after your color process has been completed and rinsed.
A generous amount will be combed through your hair and left on for around 20 minutes.
During this time, it continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds. After which your hair is shampooed and conditioned.
Part three of the system comes down to you using the home product on your hair every week. Two or three times if you happen to have bleached hair.
This will give you protection from any damage done at home.
How To Apply Your Olaplex Part Three At Home.
Step 1. This product can be applied to dry hair. Although I normaly recommend my clients to jump in the shower and give their hair a light shampoo. As this helps remove any product or silicones that maybe on their hair.
Step 2. Blot dry your hair thoroughly.
Step 3. Apply your Olaplex no. 3 generously saturating all your hair strands before combing through with a wide toothed comb.
Step 4. The instructions will say to leave the product on for 10 minutes. But I would suggest If you can to leave it 30 minutes or longer. In fact the longer you leave the treatment on your hair the more effective it is.
Step 5. Rinse the treatment from your hair.
Step 6. Shampoo and then condition your hair with your favorite conditioner.
Step 7. Dry your hair and see how strong and healthy it now feels.
