Correctly applying your hair conditioning treatments is a must. If you want to get the full benefits out of the masque or treatment that you have purchased.
Whether you have colored, dry, damaged or fragile hair and even if you don’t think your hair is damaged at all. Incorporating a conditioning treatment on a regular basis will help you to maintain healthy hair.
To be honest there are a hundred ways in which your hair gets damaged from your weekly swim in the pool to the use of your hair brush or thermal hair tools.
Be certain your hair will thank you for working in some hair conditioning treatments by looking healthy and shiny. Which will in turn lead to you getting plenty of compliments on your locks.
Weekly applications will do wonders for your hair. But it is important that you do use the correct type of hair conditioning treatments to nourish your hair.
How you apply your hair conditioning treatment will also depend on the outcome.
I have found through talking to my clients that the application of their hair treatment.
Depends upon the time they have available in the shower.
Also that they only apply a hair treatment every so often when they remember
How about you?
Now if you do want to have healthy shiny hair.
A quick two-minute rub all over application under the shower is not exactly going to revive your hair.
Nor is one application once a month.
Or
Once in a blue moon when you happen to think about your hair condition whilst laying on the coach having a night in.
Hair Conditioning Treatments How Often Should You Use Them.
I recommend to my clients that they put hair conditioning treatments on their hair once a week on a regular basis.
As this helps their hair become less prone to breakage and the problem of hair frizz in humid climates.
Whist at the same time making their hair softer and more manageable.
A point to note. All hair is different and if you find that by applying a hair treatment once a week your hair over time becomes limp and feels weak.
Reduce your application to every two weeks instead so that you do not over load your hair.
Second point to note. Olaplex is not a conditioning treatment it is a bond restorer.
Will Your Hair Need Protein Or Moisture Hair Conditioning Treatments?
With so many different hair conditioning treatments on the shelfs it can be difficult to pick the right type of treatment you will need for your hair. For a rough rule of thumb think.
Hair with high porosity needs protein.
Hair with low elasticity will need moisture.
If your hair strands are thick your hair will need more moisture than if your hair strands are fine.
For hair strands that are fine your hair will tend to need more protein.
If your hair is curly you will need both from time to time to keep your hair in balance.
When To Use A Protein Hair Conditioning Treatment?
Your hair needs protein to stay healthy and a protein treatment will help to reconstruct and strengthen your hair strands.
When your hair has high porosity in other words is very porous.
Each individual strand will have tears and gaps in it so making your hair much more vulnerable to damage.
If your hair has high porosity or is limp or weak it maybe a sign that your hair needs a protein treatment.
With very porous hair you will find that your hair seems to take a long time to dry. As the tears and gaps in your hair shaft allow your hair to absorb far too much water when wet.
Protein treatments contain Hydrolyzed proteins, Amino acids and Aloe Vera which help to reconstruct and strengthen your hair strands. By supplying your hair with the vital proteins needed to help seal up the gaps and tears.
A note of caution.
Over use a protein hair conditioning treatment to on your hair can lead to stiff and brittle hair.
When To Use A Moisturizing Hair Conditioning Treatment?
Having a good balance of moisture in your hair helps to prevent tangles and knots after a shampoo. As well as split ends and hair breakage due to your hair having a poor elasticity.
Hair with poor elasticity will tend to break when stretched whilst brushing or combing.
Whist hair with a good elasticity will bounce back naturally.
How to test the elasticity of your own hair.
Take a single hair that’s is still attached to your head.
Damp that single hair with water.
Now stretch that hair then let go.
If your single hair bounces back to it’s original length. Your hair has good elasticity.
If your hair breaks or only bounces back a small amount. Your hair has poor elasticity.
Hair with a good moisture content is essential if you want to achieve healthy looking head of hair.
Moisturizing hair conditioning treatments contain fatty alcohols, emollient butters and essential oils. These will saturate your hair with moisture whilst at the same time help to seal it in.
The 7 Steps For Applying Your Hair Conditioning Treatments The Right Way At Home.
1. Wash and blot the excess water from your hair.
2. Section off the top part of your hair from temple to temple.
3. Take small sections of your underneath hair and spread the hair treatment evenly throughout the hair using your fingers
4. Massage the product into the hair from root to tip using your fingers. Note. If you have an oily scalp do not apply the moisturizing treatment onto your scalp.
5. If you have long hair make sure that you concentrate on the ends of the hair first. Being several years old and more worn the ends of your hair will tend to be far more damaged.
6. Let down the top section and work the same way. If you have distributed and massaged the product well into your hair there is no need to comb through. Just let the hair absorb what it needs.
7. Gently rinse off the hair treatment and condition your hair with your favorite conditioner.
How Long To Leave Your Treatment On.
When you are applying a moisturizing hair treatment.
You can optimize the effect by covering your head with a warm towel for 10 minutes. If your hair is very dry think 20 minutes.
If you wish you could choose to leave your moisturizing treatment on all night but you will only end up with the same result as with 20 minutes.
This is due to your hair only being able to absorb so much.
After that no matter how long you leave it no more product will be able to go in.
When applying Protein hair treatments.
These can be alternated with your moisturizing treatment. But remember not to over use a protein treatment otherwise your hair can become brittle.
Therefore leaving it on your hair for 10 minutes before rinsing is quite sufficient.
When applying Coconut Oil.
A lot of people do apply coconut oil as a natural hair treatment.
Always use this before you wash your hair concentrating your application towards the ends of your hair.
Leave on for around 20 to 30 minutes before washing off.
How often you apply a hair conditioning treatment to your hair depends on your hair type but once a week is a good guide line. Remember that the key to having a head of healthy shiny hair is good moisture to protein balance.
