Hair plopping have you ever tried it? This no heat method is a great way to enhance any natural wave or curl that you may have in your hair.
Whilst at the same time adding a little more volume.
Maybe you just leave your curly or wavy hair to airdry after washing and conditioning as you complete other things you need to do.
If that is the case. You can find that your waves tend to look a lot straighter and your loose curls end up having a stretched look when dry.
Because gravity and the weight of the water still in your hair. Will gently pull down your hair’s natural movement.
What Is Hair Plopping.
The name hair plopping comes from the fact that you will just plop your hair down.
And the whole idea is that it will cut down the amount of time it takes you to air dry your hair.
Hair plopping is remarkably like the hair scrunching method. Except that you will not have to spend a lot of time finger scrunching your hair with a dryer and diffuser.
Plopping encourages your hair’s natural wave or loose curl to dry more compact.
Because your hair can dry undisturbed as well as being released from its own weight.
Enjoy Your Hairs Natural Movement.
If you have a natural wave or soft curl in your hair you should really give hair plopping a try.
Because enhancing your hairs natural movement adds an interest to any hairstyle.
Giving you a unique and individual look.
Because no two heads of hair will ever have the exact same wave or curl pattern.
Here are some other curly hair tips on getting great looking curls.
Items You Need For Hair Plopping.
1. A microfiber towel or old tee shirt.
2. Your styling product.
A regular bath towel is not recommended here because of the materials loopy weave.
Which creates a rough texture in which your individual strands may get caught. As well as create a high level of friction which damages your hair cuticle or outside layer.
It is important to remember that when your hair is wet it is in a fragile state.
Therefore it can be prone to breakage.
A microfiber towel does not have the same loopy weave and is made of a much smoother fiber. And therefore far gentler on your hair.
If you do not want to splash out on a microfiber towel pick out an old tee shirt from your wardrobe.
Like microfiber towels tee shirt cotton is soft and woven close together.
But do make sure that the tee shirt you pick is smooth. With no decorations that could catch on your hair.
Warning note. Beware there are a lot of fake microfiber towels out there. So purchase a good quality one which should be soft and ultra-smooth.
8 Step Guide To Plopping Your Hair.
1. After washing and conditioning your hair blot out any excess water.
2. Apply your product I would recommend that you use a leave in conditioner or a curl enhancer. Most product companies have these in their range of haircare products.
3. Comb the product through your hair so that it is smooth and free of frizz.
4. Use your hands to gently scrunch each section of hair a couple of times. By doing this you will encourage your curl to spring up.
5. Take you micro towel or tee shirt and spread it out on a flat surface like a tabletop.
6. Bend over so that you plop your curls ends first into the towel/tee shirt.
7. Slowly bend further down until the crown of your head touches. Your hair is now all scrunched up.
8. Once you are in this position wrap the towel/tee shirt around your head. Twist up the excess fabric and fold and secure this into the towel/tee shirt at the back of your head.
Your plopping is now complete.
How Long To Leave your Hair Wrapped.
How long you leave your hair wrapped up when plopping does take a bit of trial and error on your part.
Tend to leave your hair in this position for thirty minutes to one hour depending upon the length and thickness of your hair.
After the first try at hair plopping you will better be able to gauge the best amount of time for you.
When your allotted time is up start gently unwinding the towel/tee and let your hair fall.
But do try to keep your fingers out of your hair at this point. Because playing with your curls if the hair is slightly damp will lead to unwanted frizz.
Now if your timing is a little bit out your hair may not be completely dry.
In which case if you are in a hurry you can finish with a diffuser or otherwise leave to airdry.
When your hair is completely dry. Bend over and give your hair a quick scrunch.
Will Hair Plopping Work On All Hair Types.
Plopping your hair works well if you have natural waves or curly hair. But not recommended for very curly hair.
The ideal hair length for plopping tends to be medium to long. If your hair is to short you may end up with your hair looking a lot shorter.
Because it will leave your hairs natural waves or light curls intact. Instead of stretching them out which is the case if you leave your hair down to dry.
Unfortunately this is not a method that is going to make straight hair wavy or curly.
You will need a curling iron for that. Here are some tips on choosing a good curling iron.
