Hair color survival in a crisis I never thought that I would be writing a blog post like this.
Nobody could have predicted at the start of the year that our lives would be turned upside down. And most businesses closed for weeks on end.
With all hairdressing salons having to close shop for an indefinite period. You will be one of the many millions of women who are wondering how they are going to keep up the maintenance of their hair color.
Because hair is a great confidence and feel good booster.
So to help you in your hair color survival and avoid some home care mistakes during this period.
Here is a little bit of professional advice.
Root Color Maintenance While At Home.
With the uncertainty of not knowing when you can next visit the salon to touch up your hair color.
Yet your roots or those pesky grey hairs are becoming more prolific.
Your hair colors survival is at stake.
On a visit to the local pharmacy you walk along the aisle looking at the box home color kits.
Because their advertising does make it look amazingly easy. And the results they promise will turn out just the same as your salon color.
But my advice is to be incredibly careful.
Because in the case of hair color it is not a case of “one size fits all”.
Everyone’s hair has it’s own individual hair porosity and texture. And these are taken into consideration when your stylist mixes up your hair color in the salon.
I prefer to recommend that you use a root touch up spray to help cover up any grey roots.
A product like L’Oréal hair touch up will temporarily cover over regrowth grey hairs. With shades of dark blonde, light brown, brown and black plus several more colors being available.
Great and easy to use for the regrowth areas that you can see. Use this product after drying your hair on the parting and around your hairline.
If You Must Use A Box Color.
If your only way to hair color survival is to use a box home color kit do be aware of a few pointers.
Whatever you believe the color of your hair is. It probably is not as there is a high chance that it is lighter than you think it is.
Caution is the key word here.
If you think that your hair color is brown buy a box of dark blonde hair color. Not a box of brown.
Because if you color your hair a little lighter than your salon color. On your next visit to your hairstylist for your color touch up. They will easily be able to adjust the depth a bit.
But if you happen to have applied a home box color and it has turned out to dark.
The implications of getting back to your original shade would include the stripping of that darker color from your hair.
Which will lead to higher costs and also the chance of hair damage from the process.
Highlight Hair Color Survival In A Crises.
You are stuck at home and the roots from your highlight regrowth are becoming very noticeable.
Especially so if you wear your hair in a very flat style.
Hair color survival by touching up the root area is a big no go.
Instead my advice is to plump instead for a home glossing treatment. Which you should be able to find at your local pharmacy.
Because a hair glossing treatment will bring life back to your hair by revitalizing the tone of your highlights as well as adding a shine. This in turn will help take the emphasis off that root regrowth.
Shampooing To Prolong Your Hair Color.
Washing your hair less often is a major point for your hair color survival during Covid 19.
Let us be honest you are hardly going out and you are not meeting anyone. So leaving your hair an extra couple of days before shampooing is not that hard.
But if you do find that is difficult because you have a oily root problem. Consider a dry shampoo every other day to help you through.
As your colored hair will definitely benefit from this new routine. Because without the daily use of shampoo and water your hair color will survive for a longer time before it starts to fade.

Revitalize Your Colored Hair Whilst At Home.
When you cannot go out and you have time to pass away an hour reading a book.
Why not also use that hour to revitalize your colored hair at the same time.
Because we all want to look good when we can finally go out and socialize again.
Using any form of chemical on the hair will have a slight drying effect.
Applying a hydrating hair mask once a week during lock down will do wonders when it comes to putting the moisture and bounce back into your colored hairstyle.
With the added plus that most masks tend to smell good. So if you happen to be feeling stressed with being shut in maybe the infused fragrance will calm you down.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. If your friends have colored hair please share it with them.
