If you happen to have been born with fine hair one of your biggest concerns tends to be how can I create and keep volume when I blow-dry my fine hair.
In fact you have probably spent a lot of time envying women who seem to have a head of luscious locks. Especially as nowadays everybody in the film or glamour industry seem to have masses of hair. But remember all’s not always what it seems with the use of hair extensions and wigs being part of the hair game.
So today let’s look at some tips that could be helpful when it comes to pumping up and keeping the volume in your fine hair.
Now a lot of times people often get confused. To the use of the words fine and thin hair. As these can be used in the wrong context by your hairdresser or friends.
So let’s put this to rest.
Fine Hair Lets Clear The Confusion.
Fine Hair.
Means that the cuticle diameter of each individual strand of hair is small. Therefore you could in fact have fine hair but a high number of individual hairs on your head.
Thin Hair.
Means that the number of hairs per two square centimeters on your head is low. So in fact you could have thick individual hairs but not many of them or have fine thin hair that is also thin.
Start Right To Create Volume.
Tip 1.Start your shampoo every time with a little scalp massage so as to increase the blood flow to your hair roots.
Do this on your dry hair open your fingers. Use them on your scalp in a technique similar to if you were squeezing an orange for a couple of minutes.
Tip 2.It is important to use the correct shampoo and conditioner.
I would recommend one formulated for fine hair such as a volumizing shampoo and the conditioner.
Preferably one that contains wheat germ as this will help strengthen and expand the diameter of your hair shaft. These products ingredients will not weigh down your fine hair.
Tip 3.Stay away from moisturizing shampoo’s as these tend to be heavy and will only make your hair look flat by weighing it down.
Tip 4.When using conditioner never put it on or near your roots. Just apply to the bottom two thirds of your hair.
Tip 5.With fine hair daily washing tends to be a must. Generally heads with fine hair also suffer from oiliness which then tends to attract grim.
Which in turn will weigh down your locks. If you want to give your hair a rest day. Pick up and use a dry shampoo as this will soak up any excess oil and also add texture.
How To Pump Up The Volume When You Dry Fine Hair.
Tip 6.Firstly towel dry your hair well. Then part hair into sections and spray a root lifter or volume spray into the root areas.

Tip 7.Switch your blow dryer onto medium and proceed to dry your hair in the opposite direction to its growth pattern. Or if your hair is longer turn your head upside down and dry from underneath.
Until your hair is approximately eighty percent dry by doing this you will find that your hair has already taken on a look of a lot more volume.
Section your hair and use your brush to finish the blow dry making sure that you lift each section up and away from the roots as you do so as this also helps to create volume.
Tip 8.With longer hair now take out your Velcro rollers. Place them into sections of your hair winding into the roots. Spray the rollers lightly with hairspray and turning your hairdryer to cool.
Just spend a couple of minutes drying the curlers before taking them out.
Tip 9.Brush through the hair and for hold lift small sections of your hair. Gently spray a little hairspray onto the root hold for a second till dry and then let the hair down. This will give your fine hair volume added staying power.
Tip 10.For your volume to stay it is very important that you hair is thoroughly dry before you go out. If you let your hair air dry it will tend to look a lot limper.
Sleeping With Your Hair.
If you have longish hair think of sleeping with your hair tied in a soft plait. Or separate chunks of hair and roll them around strips of fabric then tie the two ends of the fabric together. This way you can create body and curls that will last you all day long.
Do not use styling products such as waxes or pomades and silicone’s as these will tend to make your hair look lank and oily.
Learning to work with what you have can sometimes mean giving up your dream look. As creating and keeping volume in fine hair does take some effort. If you find it all too much don’t despair. Maybe think of going for a shorter cut which can make your fine hair appear fuller and thicker.
