“I can never blow dry my long hair to look the same as when I leave the hair salon it is never as full, smooth or as shiny”.
This is probably a phase that you have heard yourself say on several occasions.
The problem being that for a lot of women and maybe yourself as well. Blow drying the hair tends to be one of the many things that have to be performed before dashing out the door to work or take the kids to school in the morning.
If your hair is not the top priority on the list of things to do in the morning. A quick five minute blast could be all the time that you allow.
But for a good blowdry I am afraid that” time is the key”.
Yes unfortunately without this. Achieving that salon looking blow dry is an impossible task no matter how good your equipment and products are.
So allow yourself an extra five or ten minutes.
Follow some of these tips especially if you have an important meeting or a great diner to go out to.
And you will be able arrive with great confidence.
Knowing that your hair looks great with a blow dry that looks as if it was created by a professional.
The Tips To Help You Achieve A Professional Looking Blow Dry.
Tip One. Speed Things Along.
A lot of times people tend to start blow drying long hair into a style by using a brush from when it is far too wet.
If this is the case generally when it comes to the most important time of the blow dry.
Which happens to be just before the hair is finally dry.
Your arms are aching and you are fed up and just want to rush the blow out through.
In fact to save your arms don’t pick up your brush. Until the hair is about seventy percent dry this is the time to start work as the hair will then hold its shape.
Tip Two. Hands First Blow Dry.
For the first seventy percent of drying use your fingers to rake through the hair lifting small sections as you go.
Concentrate the air from the hand dryer into the roots of the lifted sections.
Before moving down the length as this will start to create lift and volume in the root area of your hair.
Tip Three. Know Your Product.
If you are using a product for support when you blow dry. Think about what you would like it to do and then use it correctly.
When you are using it to help you achieve more lift at the root area make sure you put the product into the root area only.
Because if the product goes onto the ends it will have a tendency to weigh the hair down. And this is
something you don’t want if you wish to achieve lift.
Tip Four. Brush Type.
Now if your blow drying your long hair you will be using one of two brush types.
Either a round brush or a paddle brush.
If you have straight long hair and all you require is a smooth finish you will be using a paddle brush to dry your hair.
However if your hair is curly, fuzzy or you want some volume your brush of choice should be a round one.
In this instance it is a case where big is best.
As the bigger the brush the smoother the blow dry will be when it comes to using a round brush.
For a smooth finish especially on hair that is curly or frizzy use a boar bristle brush.
Because when it comes to bristles the density and closeness on this brush will provide you with more tension for a smoother pull.
Tip Five. Blow Dry Technique.
When blow drying your own hair it tends to be easier for you to wrap the brush around the ends of the hair. Then blast them with the hand dryer.
Unfortunately this is the wrong move especially if volume is what you wish to achieve.
Instead you really need to be placing the brush at the root area then lifting the root.
Before rolling the brush down to the ends of the hair and back again.
This technique will give your hair a movement from roots to ends which in turn will create a very natural lift.

Tip Six. Let It Cool.
Your blow dry style will last much longer if you allow the hair to cool as you blow dry.
After drying each section of your hair take a few seconds to allow the hair to sit around the brush and cool.
Or better still if you have a cool button on your hair dryer blast it with cold air.
Because this will help the hair set in its position which will help to make your hard work last longer.
Tip Seven. Nozzle That Hair Dryer.
If you have a nozzle for your hair dryer use it. When directing the dryer with the nozzle on down the hair shaft during your blow dry. You will find that the hairs cuticle will be smoother.
Which in turn will create a smoother and shinier finish to your blow dry just like when you visit the salon.
Tip Eight. Spray Sense.
Once finished with your style you will want to keep all that hard work looking good for a while.
So reaching for the hairspray seems the right thing to do.
But please don’t hammer your hairstyle with the hairspray from close range because the last thing you want is a solid and stiff look.
To give hold and support to the underneath hair flick your head upside down and spray lightly the hair at the back of your head.
Then sit upright and spray the top hair from a distance as this will create a light even distribution all over your head.
I hope these tips will help you reduce the amount of times that you will say “I can never blow dry my hair to look the same as when I leave the hair salon it is never as full, smooth or as shiny”.
